Send Solana (SOL)

Send Solana (SOL)

Sending SOL from Begin Wallet is fast and straightforward. Transactions on Solana confirm in seconds and cost a fraction of a cent, so you can move funds without worrying about high fees.

Let Jamie show you how it works.

Step-by-step: How to send SOL

  1. Open your Solana wallet in Begin

    • Tap the SOL icon from your wallet home screen.
  2. Tap "Send"

    • This opens the send flow where you can enter the recipient's details.
  3. Paste or scan the recipient's address

    • Use a QR code or paste the Solana address from your clipboard.
    • Solana addresses are base58-encoded strings, typically 32-44 characters long.
  4. Enter the amount of SOL

    • You can also toggle to see the equivalent in your local currency.
  5. Review the transaction

    • You will see a summary of the recipient address, the amount, and the estimated network fee (usually less than $0.01).
  6. Confirm the transaction

    • Use biometrics or your passcode to authorize the send.
  7. Done!

    • Your transaction is signed and submitted to the Solana network. Confirmation typically takes just a few seconds.

Jamie's Tips for Secure Sending

  • Double-check the address: Solana transactions are irreversible. Always verify the recipient's address before confirming.
  • Keep some SOL for fees: Even though fees are tiny, you need a small SOL balance to cover them. Don't send your entire balance.
  • Use QR codes when possible: Scanning a QR code avoids manual entry mistakes.

Jamie's Notes

  • Solana uses an account-based model, so sending SOL is a simple balance transfer -- there are no UTXOs or change outputs to think about.
  • Network fees on Solana are currently around 0.000005 SOL per transaction, which amounts to fractions of a cent.
  • If you are sending an SPL token for the first time to a new address, the recipient may need a small SOL deposit to create the associated token account (rent).
